Ross - Owner and Coach at Washougal River CrossFit

Ross has been married to Leslie longer than he can remember and they have two teenage children. He has been in the National Guard for over 20 years and currently serves as a Warrant Officer.  He completed his first Half-Iron Man in 2014. While growing up, he was active in swimming, wrestling, soccer, baseball, (you name it, he probably did it!) and is pretty much a Jack-Of-All-Trades these days.

Ross’ CrossFit journey began many years ago when his (at the time) 10 year old son challenged him to a foot race. The boy beat him without even trying, leaving Ross feeling like a slow old man. Ross decided then and there that he needed to make a change! He tried many things, from switching diets to running several days a week, as well as CrossFit-type exercises on his own. While he was making positive gains, he still wasn’t getting the results he wanted. Eventually, at his request, his wife bought him a membership to Washougal River CrossFit (North Pacific at the time!).  The progress he started making was what he had been looking for and the supportive community was certainly an added bonus!  In his spare time he enjoys supporting his kids in their activities and fixing or building just about anything Leslie asks him to.

Leslie - Owner/Coach at Washougal River CrossFit

Leslie has been married to Ross since they were babies and is the woman behind the books!  She keeps the behind-the-scenes action up and running as smoothly as possible.  Her favorite parts about coaching are watching new athletes' passion for CrossFit grow and seeing people do things they couldn’t (or didn't know they could) do before.

Having loved weightlifting in her teens and rediscovering her love of running somewhere in her late 20's or early 30's, Leslie found CrossFit to be a perfect fit!  The amazing community was just the icing on the cake!  She began her CrossFit journey in 2013 and has found that, over 20 years later, she's surpassing all her PR's (personal records) in both weightlifting and running.  Leslie continues to set, work towards, and reach new goals  (she loves goals and plans!).  Her love of running remains and you will often see her running around town training for life … or maybe just for another 10K or half marathon (if she gets talked into it again).

Leslie has a Master’s in Teaching with an endorsement in Physical Education and Health for grades K-12 and teaches in local school districts.  She has also been coaching middle school Volleyball since 2016, so don't expect to see much of her during Volleyball season!  Leslie and Ross have two teenage children whom you will likely see helping out around the box and being active in the community.

Tracey
Tracey - Coach at Washougal River Crossfit

Tracey - Coach at Washougal River Crossfit

Tracey is a talented competitive runner and is one of the most energetic people you will ever meet.  One year, during the running off-season, Tracey decided to join CrossFit North Pacific (that’s who we were back then) to help prepare for a few races. Her plan was to just stay for a couple of months, but she has been a consistent athlete ever since. Tracey feels that Washougal River CrossFit represents all that is wonderful about being an athlete and embodies the joy and passion that comes from supporting each other and pushing yourself as hard as you can. Her love of CrossFit and helping people succeed is evident to everyone in her classes.

After getting married and graduating from college with a Bachelor’s in social work, Tracey worked in children’s mental health services for several years. Once she began having her own children (she and Tom have three fantastic kids!), she switched gears and chose to stay home to raise them full time.

In her “spare time”, Tracey started and grew the CrossFit Kids program and summer camps at Washougal River CrossFit to the amazing program that they are today.  When she isn’t coaching, training for a run, working out at WRCF, or running her own children around, you will very likely find her volunteering her time around the community (and probably has her two dogs assisting her).

Tom
Tom - Coach at Washougal River CrossFit

Tom - Coach at Washougal River CrossFit

Tom has been in athletics his entire life including baseball, football, and basketball. In a family of 7 kids, and the youngest of 4 boys, he was always fighting for whatever he could get. He was never the strongest or the fastest, but he would never be outworked!

While Tom was in Dental School, he began to run short distances. Each new personal record brought a feeling of achievement, whether it was a two-mile run or a successful 5K. Hard work and many years later, he has run 10 marathons, one 50 K trail race, multiple half marathons, and 2 half Ironman triathlons.

In 2014 Tom came to CrossFit as a way to train during the running offseason and gain more muscle mass. CrossFit workouts were often shorter in duration than he was used to, yet brought a new dimension to his fitness and one that he realized he had been missing without even knowing it! Still running, he feels stronger than ever before, even in his 40’s. A veteran of the US Navy, Tom routinely participates in CrossFit competition fundraisers for Law Enforcement and Military organizations and is always the first one to pitch in when it comes to Boy Scout and outdoor activities involving our community’s kids. Tom is technical guru (even though he will insist that it’s all common knowledge) and loves to share his enthusiasm and knowledge with his athletes.  He is married to Tracey and they have 3 adorable kids and 2 adorable dogs.

Justin - Coach at Washougal River CrossFit

Justin grew up in western Connecticut, but has lived in many places throughout the United States. Sports have always been a big part of his life, playing 3 sports in high school and baseball in college. Now, having a high-powered sales career, Justin feeds his competitive spirit through CrossFit!

Justin found CrossFit in 2014 after resisting his wife’s encouragement to try it for over a year. Giving in to the persistent nagging, he immediately fell in love with the variety, intensity, and challenge.

Some of his favorite movements are muscle-up, snatch, and overhead squat.  A movement that makes him cringe in a WOD?  Anything involving running.  Justin is one of the kindest, helpful, and genuinely fun people you will ever meet. He is an amazing coach who cares about precision, safety, and  having a great time! He takes time to welcome new faces, lend a hand, or help someone with a skill they are working on. The coaching team and community love him for this!

In addition to CrossFit, Justin is an avid traveler of the world, having been to 5 different continents and over 40 different countries in the past 10 years. While traveling (with his wife and their two kids), he hunts down local boxes to get a workout or two in. If Justin could give anyone advice on CrossFitting, it would be to simply try it because, really, you have no idea what you are missing out on!

Drew
Drew - Coach at Washougal River CrossFit

Drew - Coach at Washougal River CrossFit

Drew grew up a military brat overseas and moved to the Pacific Northwest when he was 10.  He spent as much time as he could with his grandparents on a ranch hunting, fishing, and generally being an outdoorsman.  Not much has changed.  You will still find Drew hunting, fishing, and doing outdoor activities whenever possible.

He joined Washougal River CrossFit (North Pacific back then) in 2014 when he was bored with working out on his own and felt like he needed more motivation.  He instantly fell in love with the fun and supportive community.  Although Drew has had 3 major joint surgeries, he continues to work hard and get better every day because he enjoys the challenge and wants to make sure he is ready for anything on his outdoor adventures.  Having to modify WODs in order to accommodate healing from his surgeries makes Drew highly capable of helping (and empathetic of), those who need to modify.  He loves helping others reach their goals and he believes CrossFit is for ANYONE.

When Drew isn’t flying around the country (he’s a pilot!), you will find him spending time with his wife (who also happens to be a pilot!) and their adorable daughter.

Jessica - Coach at Washougal River Crossfit

If you haven't met coach Jess yet, you should check out one of our BRICK classes!  You will find Jessica giving out handfuls of advice, smiles, and jokes (that are sometimes funny), as well as some sweaty workouts!

Jessica grew up fishing, riding horses, running around a farm, picking blackberries, and taking care of animals.  Her very athletic father instilled a passion for physical fitness in her life, which led her to become a distance runner and endurance athlete.  However, it wasn't until she picked up a barbell that she felt like she had found her niche.  Flash forward to Jessica graduating college with a degree in fitness and finding her way to Washougal River CrossFit (North Pacific when she first joined us).  She immediately fell in love with the environment and sense of belonging.  She believes CrossFit changed her life and made her gain confidence in her athletic abilities.  Her favorite part about coaching is helping athletes do the same.  One of the great things about Jess is that she recognizes that mental health is a major factor in feeling strong and confident in the gym.  She believes that coaching and training others continues beyond the walls of WRCF, so she is always just a “box jump” away.

Curt - Coach at Washougal River Crossfit

Curt began CrossFit after he graduated from college.  No longer playing college baseball, he needed to fill the competition-void.  He instantly enjoyed the sport, not only for the competitive aspect, but also because of the community and how challenging it is on a daily basis (however challenging you choose to make it!).

After moving to the area in 2017, he joined Washougal River CrossFit (formerly North Pacific) and we couldn’t be happier to have him!  We love his sense of humor and passion for the technical details of lifting.  Curt enjoys seeing others find success in CrossFit while living a healthy lifestyle.

When he’s not teaching middle school students about physical fitness and health, you will often see him with his sidekick, Carter (his dog) on fishing adventures or just hanging out around the box asking people if they got their squats in for the day.
