Coach Matt
Matt joined CrossFit in 2009 when a coworker suggested he try it because he was feeling stagnant with his other workouts. The constantly varied foundation keeps him from getting bored and is why he keeps coming back. Outside of CrossFit, he spends his time with his wonderful family that keeps him busy with all the fun that comes with family life.
You will never see Matt give up, but you may see him modifying movements to accommodate a hand injury. Training through that challenge gives him a unique perspective as a coach, allowing him to better support athletes who need modifications or scaling options.
Coaching has given Matt the chance to give back to the CrossFit community he loves while continuing to learn more about his favorite sport. Using all the lessons he’s learned the hard way, he can’t keep himself from pushing others to strive to be Better Every Day.

Coach Britni
Before Britni joined Washougal River CrossFit in 2023, she was extremely nervous to step in the gym. After more than a year of encouragement from her husband, she finally took that first step and hasn’t looked back. Her drive for herself and support of others to Better Every Day is crystal clear to anyone who has the joy of sharing the floor with her.
Olympic weightlifting quickly became Britni’s favorite part of CrossFit. Before joining, she had never even picked up a barbell! She’s now crushing heavy weights, discovering her strength, and having fun along the way.
Her personal life is full with her husband Jonny and their two amazing kids, Stella and Jesse. She’s also a teacher and combines her passion for teaching with her love of CrossFit to coach our CrossFit Kids program.
Although she loves coaching adults, her true joy is watching young athletes grow in confidence, improve their fitness, and build skills they can carry into other sports and lifelong health.

Coach Drew
Drew grew up a military brat overseas and moved to the Pacific Northwest when he was 10. He spent as much time as he could with his grandparents on a ranch hunting, fishing, and generally being an outdoorsman. Not much has changed. You will still find Drew hunting, fishing, and doing outdoor activities whenever possible.
He joined Washougal River CrossFit (North Pacific back then) in 2014 after growing bored with working out on his own and feeling like he needed more motivation. He quickly fell in love with the fun, supportive community and the challenge of constantly improving. Despite multiple major joint surgeries, Drew continues to train hard and adapt his workouts to ensure his is ready for anything on his outdoor adventures.
Having firsthand experience modifying movements while recovering from surgery gives Drew a unique perspective as a coach. He believes CrossFit is for anyone and loves helping athletes find what works for them, push their limits, and become Better Every Day. His enthusiasm and passion for the sport inspire others to grow, challenge themselves, and discover their own potential.

Owner/Coach Justin
Justin started CrossFit in 2013 after watching a few friends get fitter by the day. He quickly realized the amazing social aspect of CrossFit; collective “suffering” was way better than working out alone. Lifting heavy stuff sealed the deal. Heavy squats and deadlifts make his soul happy. Good luck containing his excitement during The CrossFit Total.
As a competitive swimmer through college, Justin developed a deep appreciation for discipline, technique, and long-term improvement. That foundation eventually carried him from the pool to the barbell. Olympic lifting and powerlifting now compete for his attention. Outside of CrossFit, he followed his love of water into a career as a commercial diver and hyperbaric specialist. He and his wife Amanda love to travel, especially when it includes scuba diving in a new corner of the world.
As a coach, Justin loves watching athletes hit milestones — a first pull-up, a new PR, or a breakthrough in technique. He focuses on meeting each athlete where they are, building strong technical foundations, and helping them move safely and efficiently. His goal is to help every athlete build confidence, grow stronger, and become Better Every Day.

Coach Ross
Coach
Ross started CrossFit in 2013. After his son (who was 10 at the time) challenged him to a foot race and won, Ross was feeling like a slow old man. He decided then and there that he needed to make a change, so he could win races against The Boy for as many years as possible. He tried many things, from switching diets to running several days a week, as well as CrossFit-type exercises on his own. While he was making positive gains, he still wasn’t getting the results he wanted. Eventually, at his request, his wife gifted him a membership to Washougal River CrossFit (North Pacific at the time!). The progress he started making was what he had been looking for and the supportive community was certainly an added bonus!
Soon after beginning CrossFit, he started coaching. He enjoys sharing his love of the sport with athletes. Athletes love his unique style of coaching filled with humor and the desire to push everyone to be Better Every Day.

Coach Leslie
Having fallen in love with weightlifting in her teens and rediscovering her love of running somewhere in adulthood, Leslie knew she’d found the perfect fit when she walked into CrossFit in 2013. The amazing community was just the icing on the cake! Over a decade later, she's surpassing all her teenage PRs in both weightlifting and running. She continues to set, work towards, and reach new goals — she loves goals and plans! Her love of running remains and you will often see her running around town training for life, enjoying every mile.
Leslie gets genuinely excited when others succeed and loves cheering athletes on from the sidelines. Her favorite parts about coaching are watching new athletes' passion for CrossFit grow and seeing someone light up after doing something they couldn’t — or didn’t know they could — do before. All with the goal of being Better Every Day.
Leslie has a Master’s in Teaching with an endorsement in Physical Education and Health for grades K-12.

Coach Kent
In 2012, while living in California, Kent’s wife, Amanda convinced him to try CrossFit. He agreed because he was getting bored with running. He continued because he loved both the challenge and the competitive spirit it offered to be Better Every Day. He and Amanda also enjoyed working out together and felt that the supportive, encouraging environment brought them closer as a couple.
After undergoing major shoulder surgery, Kent gained firsthand experience in recovery, rebuilding, and training smart. That journey gives him valuable insight into modifications and scaling, helping athletes navigate injuries while continuing to build strength and confidence. His speed and endurance haven’t change though and neither has his sense of humor or passion for sharing his love of the sport.
Kent’s favorite part of coaching is the uniqueness each athlete brings to class and the challenge of identifying what each athlete needs, every day, every WOD.
